DISABILITIES AUTHOR TO DELIVER SCHOLARS’ CONVOCATION AT GRINNELL COLLEGE

GRINNELL, IA—“Disability Studies and the Boundaries of the Human” will be the topic of the Grinnell College Scholars’ Convocation on Thurs., Mar. 12 at 11 a.m. in the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center, Room 101, on the Grinnell campus.

Speaker Michael Bérubé will draw from both personal and professional experience, as a writer on disability rights, cultural studies, liberal politics, and debates in higher education and as a parent of a son with Down syndrome.

Bérubé, who is Paterno Family Professor in Literature at Pennsylvania State University, is the author of six books, including “Rhetorical Occasions: Essays on Humans and the Humanities” and his most recent book, “What’s Liberal about the Liberal Arts? Classroom Politics and ‘Bias’ in Higher Education.” He has also written numerous essays for a wide variety of academic journals and popular media such as Harper’s, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, and The Nation.
